- Topographical Map of the Road From Fort Smith, Arks. to Santa Fe, N.M. and from Donna Ana N.M. to Fort Smith: made by the order of Bvt. Grig Gen. M. Arbuckles, U.S.A. by Capt. R.B. Macy, 5th U.S. Inf.
- Creator:
- Macy, R.B.
- Abstract:
- For those traversing the area between key locations in New Mexico and Arkansas, this comprehensive topographical and hydrological map demarcates strategic routes: the area along the Red and Canadian Rivers; two major routes from Fort Smith to Santa Fe; several other paths and indigenous trails including those used by the Apaches and Comanches; and various tribal lands. Marcy’s route west clung to the southern bank of the Canadian river and returns crossing the Pecos, Brazos, and Red Rivers. The geography of the portion of Texas lying south of the road was taken from J. de Cordova’s Map of Texas. It includes a very early identification of Dallas and Ft. Worth along the Trinity River. Acquired with the support of the Jefferson and Martha Dykes Endowment.
