- Topographisch-geognostische Karte von Texas : mit Zugrundelegung der geographischen Karte v. Wilson nach eigenen Beobachtungen bearbeitet
- Creator:
- Roemer, Ferdinand, 1818-1891
- Abstract:
- This is the first geologic map of Texas and one of the most accurate from the Republic period, created by the father of Texas geology, Ferdinand Roemer. Roemer came to Texas at the insistence of Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, commissioner-general of the Adelsverein, to document the mineral resources of Texas and produce a map. His trip was supported by Alexander von Humboldt. The multilayered detail includes not only the topographic relief and color-coded geological information, but also settlements, land grants, forts, ferries, roads, etc. This map even uses distinct symbols to identify oak vs. pine trees in what is now the Cross Timbers area.
