The United States: and the relative position of the Oregon and Texas
- Title:
- The United States: and the relative position of the Oregon and Texas
- Creator:
- Wyld, James, 1812-1887
- Abstract:
- This circa 1850 map by James Wyld is one of only a few that show the extensive Texan land claim encompassing parts of present New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Wyoming. The stovepipe shape suggests that the boundaries defined by the Republic’s Congress in December 1836 were taken seriously by other governments. Two treaty lines extend west from Texas: one from 1835 and one from 1848, both between the United States and Mexico.
