Abstract:

This early German immigration map, based on the 1839 Hunt & Randel map, was likely published around 1845 for the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas, the Adelsverein. The map highlights and labels the two colonies to which the Society had purchased colonization rights. "Bourgeois D'Orvanne et Comp." is situated west of San Antonio; "Fischer et Comp. Verein" is located just to the north of that location. An inset map to the lower right situates Texas between Mexico, the United States, and the Gulf of Mexico.
