Colton's Texas
- Title:
- Colton's Texas
- Creator:
- G.W. and C.B. Colton and Co.
- Abstract:
- This map of Texas includes inset maps of the Panhandle, Galveston Bay, and Sabine Lake, and clearly shows the numerous, small counties in the eastern part of the state in contrast to the absence of counties in the west. Since Waller County is present, the map’s production can be dated to 1873, though curiously Aransas County, created in 1871, is not. Following the Civil War, Texas was again being promoted for settlement. The map shows towns, rivers, mountains, roads, railroads, stations, forts, and other information that would benefit prospective settlers.
