Map of the United States
- Title:
- Map of the United States
- Creator:
- Case, Tiffany and Co.
- Abstract:
- The projection of this large format map peculiarly distorts the western portion of the United States. Texas is shaped oddly, especially along the border with New Mexico. This representation of the western territories contains the pre-Gadsden Purchase border with Mexico; the Oregon Territory occupying the entire Northwest and extending to the Continental Divide; and the very large Indian Territory, which sits between Utah, Missouri, and Missouri Territory. It shows Utah and New Mexico occupying their largest footprint. The map extends to include most of Central America and the western part of the West Indies.
