- Abstract:
- This 1845 map shows the Republic with its border following the Nueces River. While Texas’s eastern boundary was defned by the 1819 Adams-Onís Treaty between the United States and Spain, the southern- and westernmost boundaries with Mexico were under dispute throughout the Republic’s existence. Texas claimed eastern New Mexico as the western boundary and the Río Grande as the southern boundary; Mexico claimed the Nueces River.
