- Mary Austin Holley, a Connecticut native, was the first Anglo-American to write and publish a book about Texas. Holley records her impressions and experiences of her 1831 visit and includes a map of the State of Coahuila y Tejas that shows the major rivers and land grants. Stephen F. Austin, her cousin, reserved land for her on Galveston Bay where she lived during her subsequent visits to Texas. Acquired with support from the Louise and Floyd Chapman Endowment for Texas History.
